Major storms are becoming more common

On Behalf of | Jul 22, 2024 | Natural Disasters

In Texas and many other parts of the country, the temperatures continue to rise. Without major changes regarding emissions, this is going to continue happening, potentially for decades to come.

But it’s not just rising temperatures around the globe that are going to cause a problem. Weather is becoming more unstable and more unpredictable. There are going to be more extreme situations and drastic variations in weather conditions.

For example, hurricanes and windstorms may become more common. After all, wind is created by differences in temperature and pressure systems, as the air tries to balance out those systems. If there are greater fluctuations and rising temperatures in some areas, it’s going to make the weather more volatile. This is something that people need to be prepared for, as the major storms Texas has seen in the past may be small compared to what’s coming in the future.

Cyclone activity

To see how this has been happening, researchers have looked at tropical storm activity over the last three decades. Much of this happens in the Gulf of Mexico, but it also happens in the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean.

The intensity of these storms has dramatically increased in the last 30 years. There aren’t more hurricanes than there were before, at least according to historical records, but the ones that happen are more powerful and more likely to cause widespread damage.

As a property owner, you may find yourself filing an insurance claim after a tropical storm damages your home. The odds of this happening are just going to go up in the future, so it’s something that Texas homeowners need to be aware of. You need to understand all of your legal options and the steps to take if your claim is denied.
