What is wind and hail coverage in Texas?

On Behalf of | Oct 1, 2024 | Bad Faith Insurance

Homeowners in Texas want to protect their investments, so they may opt to purchase insurance protection for their homes. In many cases, that policy includes coverage for wind and hail damage. The exception to this is typically for properties that are along the coastline. Those homeowners may have to turn to coverage from a Texas Windstorm Agency Association policy.

Hail and windstorm coverage comes into the picture when the home is damaged by either of those. You need to file a claim for damages, and you’ll have to pay the deductible before the policy will go into effect.

What does the policy cover?

Policies for hail and windstorm damage pay for damage to your home and other covered structures, and it may cover personal belongings damaged by the hail or wind. It can also pay to remove trees or debris that falls because of the storm. Some policies will also cover the cost of temporary living expenses, but that’s an add-on so you need to verify if you have that coverage.

If you’re dealing with damage to your property because of wind or hail, you should mitigate the damage by securing the property. This can mean taking steps like putting a tarp over roof damage or similar actions.

There’s a chance that the insurance company may not provide you with the benefits you should receive. Some try to provide low estimates and valuations so they don’t have to pay as much for your claim. Turning to someone familiar with these matters may help you to get what you’re due.
